Terms of sale

Last updated August 2026

These terms cover buying and using Optically, a macOS application sold by Flash Media Solutions, Inc. (“we”, “us”). By buying or using Optically you agree to them. Please read the privacy notice and the refund policy as well — they form part of these terms.

What you are buying

A licence to use Optically, not the software itself. The licence is perpetual: it does not expire, and it does not stop working if you stop paying us anything, because there is nothing further to pay.

  • One Mac per licence, plus any additional Macs you paid for at the time of purchase or later.
  • You may move a licence between Macs you own as often as you like. The app lets you release a machine so another can take its place.
  • The licence is for you or your organisation. Please do not share it with people outside it, resell it, or publish it.

Updates

Updates to Optically 1.x are included at no cost, for as long as we publish them. We are not promising to publish them forever, and we are not promising any particular feature or timescale. If there is ever a paid major version, your existing licence keeps working on the version it covers — it does not stop working because a newer one exists.

The trial

Optically runs free for 14 days with no card and nothing to sign up for. When the trial ends the volume-key feature stops until you buy a licence. Nothing is deleted, and buying a licence resumes it.

Requirements, and what we do not promise

Optically needs macOS 14.4 or later, a Sonos speaker reachable on your local network, and macOS Accessibility permission. It is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that it will work with every speaker, network, or future version of macOS or Sonos firmware. Sonos may change how its products accept local control at any time, and that is outside our control.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim connected with Optically is limited to the amount you paid for your licence. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited — and if you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by anything here.

Payment

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or hold your card details. Prices are shown in US dollars. Depending on where you are, tax may be added at checkout and will be shown to you before you pay.

Ending the licence

We may withdraw a licence if it was obtained fraudulently, if the payment was refunded or reversed, or if it is being distributed publicly. Otherwise it is yours.

Withdrawing a licence stops further Macs being added to it and issues a signed withdrawal that the app honours the next time that Mac contacts us, after which the volume-key feature stops. We do not reach into your computer: the app withdraws itself on its next check-in, and a Mac that never contacts us again will not receive it.

If we stop

If we stop selling or supporting Optically, licences already sold keep working. This is a design decision, not a promise we are asking you to trust: your licence is a signed file your Mac checks by itself, and it does not need our servers to be running.

Changes

We may update these terms for future purchases. The terms that apply to you are the ones published when you bought. Material changes will be dated at the top of this page.

Law, and getting in touch

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, United States. If something is wrong, please write to us before anything else — most things are fixable in one email.
